LGBT LGBT or GLBT are the initials collectively referred to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people. In use since the 90's, the term "LGBT" is an extension of the acronym "LGB", which in turn had replaced the expression "Gay community" that many gay, bisexual and transgender people felt they were adequately represented. Its modern use attempts to emphasize the diversity of cultures based on sexuality and gender identity, and can be applied to describe someone who is not heterosexual, rather than apply only to people who define themselves as homosexual, bisexual or transgender. To account for this inclusion, a popular variation includes the letter Q for queer (eg, "LGBTQ") for those that are not specifically represented by LGBT, such as bread sex, intersex, etc.
The letters have been established as a form of self-identification and have been adopted by most communities and LGBT media in many English-speaking countries. However, they are not liked by all those who literally covers. On the one hand, some intersex want to be included in the LGBT group and would prefer the term "LGBT." Furthermore, certain individuals in a group may feel they have no relation to individuals from other groups find offensive encompassed and persistent comparisons. Some argue that transgender and transsexual causes are not the same as those gay and bisexual men. This finds its expression in the current "gay and lesbian separatism," which argues that lesbians and gays should form a distinctive community and separated from other groups that are normally included. Other people also viewed favorably by the term because they believe that the letters are too politically correct, an attempt to categorize various groups of people in a gray area, which implies that the concerns and priorities of the major groups represented are given equal consideration.
